the original is an absolute beast of a track, some obscure b side from '72 or '73. track it down on youtube, stat. this was a big production: drums, shaker, tambo, fuzz bass, two other guitar parts, three horn lines (trombone, bari sax, trumpets), and organ. played everything live, lots of fine-tuning and fiddly tweaking. got all of that worked out and only then double-checked to see if sarah could sing it. turned out she could, which is great, cause i sure couldn't. in the top ten of favorite things i've ever recorded. december 2015.
